Dear Professor Killebrew:
My first fascination with science took place when I was in 5th Grade. At that time, I was attending a small private school in Yonkers, New York. What really caught my attention in science was the answers that it provided for my questions at the time. How does gravity work? Why can’t people live in space? How does rain and snow occur? All of these questions were answered by the fundamental principles of earth science and physics. As I grew older, I became very interested in the finite workings of the world: cells, proteins, amino acids, DNA, enzymes and atoms. My questions were answered by the wonderful teachers I had in high school. As my questions were being answered one by one, I began to cultivate a wealth of knowledge about the unspoken laws that govern our world. The information I learned sparked an interest in changing the world through biology and chemistry.
It has been my dream to do something to help advance the work of science in some way and being a biology major at City College has given me an opportunity to work with some of the most renowned scientists. Before completing my undergraduate studies, I hope to be a part of a research study that can help people who are suffering in some way. Every year, millions around the world suffer around the world from problems that can be cured by science. One such problem is the recent coronavirus. My desire is to help those at the front lines of such epidemics to create cures.
Thinking short-term, my goals for this semester are to improve my research writing skills. By the end of this semester, I want to be able to write a well thought out and clear research report on the contemporary issues in the scientific community. I hope to improve upon my information gathering and planning skills by utilizing the databases available in the CCNY library and creating detailed outlines for every step of the research writing process. In conclusion, I hope to improve my research paper writing skills and hone my planning skills this semester.
Sincerely,
Joshua Daniel
